Second grade has begun their poetry unit this year. To start off, the class practiced reading Shel Silverstein's "Poet's Tree". Then, we moved onto some material exploration. Students used oil pastels to create their first Poet's tree, closely following an example tree I drew. These trees are posted on the bulletin board outside of the art room. Then, students practiced drawing different types of trees in their sketchbooks. Using these sketches, students designed their own poet's tree to draw and paint with watercolors. Students practiced layering the watercolor paint, and using a warm or cool color scheme. Check out the images below of both projects!
