Congratulations to the 2nd, 4th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade classes for earning 5 (or more!) ART PAWS during the first 5 weeks of school. We celebrated our awesome behavior with an incentive painting day. Students were able to follow along with Ms. Katz, or follow their own creativity during a full hour of painting shenanigans.

Fashionistas beware! The art room is no place for high fashion. Pay close attention to what you choose to wear on art class days. Is it white? Does it have a printed pattern or color that would be damaged by washing with bleach? Is it made of furry, leather, or a porous material? Was it purchased for a special occasion?
Don't wear it! Even though we wear smocks and shoe covers while painting, inevitably, accidents still happen. If you wouldn't wear it to play outside in the grass, definitely don't wear it in the art room! Below are a list of Items that are a NIGHTMARE to clean after an art accident: White Shoes, White Jeans, White Leggings, and White belts. Light colored/patterned clothing that cannot be bleached Furry Purses and Vests Fabric Jewelry To go along with our abstract musical paintings, students learned simple splatter paint techniques. Students learned different ways to flick their paint brushes to get maximum splatter on their papers, rather than all over the classroom! Below you can see students experimenting with splatter paint.
You will also see some larger musical paintings that the 4th grade class completed. Each student completed a mini paining for 6 different songs. Then, students were divided into teams, and assigned one of the 6 songs. Using their classmates images, students collaborated on a large abstract painting to represent the emotional tone of their song. I love how unique each painting turned out . Just by looking at each painting, you can really feel the mood of their different songs! |
