Second grade just completed Chicago cityscapes using mixed media. Students looked at famous buildings in our Chicago skyline and created a collage over watercolor painted paper. Then, they added metalic paint to emulate the dazzeling snow and lights you can see reflecting in our beautiful Lake Michigan.

This winter our bulldogs held their very first band concert. Our beginning band students showed off their ability to play notes and chords, play as an ensemble, and even played us a few songs. We hope to see more from this group as they continue learning new skills!
Pre-K and I have been having a blast all year learning about different animals. This week we learned about penguins, and created painted collages of well dressed penguins. Take a look below at all the fun we have been having!
Middle school has completed their portraits of musical legends, and we are in the process of hanging them up around the school. I have some 7th grade examples up on my bulletin board, while 8th grade's work is hanging by the stairway. Soon the rest of the 7th and 6th grade projects will be there to join them!
For this project, each student chose a musical artist they considered to be a legend. Then, students used a gridding process to realistically draw the musician's face. You can see that process in a previous post. We then listened to one song by each artist, and created interpretational paintings of the artists' songs. Finally, students collaged paper scraps, self-created stickers, and the portraits on top of their paintings to create the final works you see below. |
