The October incentive project is up! Students in the 1st, 3rd, 4th, and 6th grade classes all earned four "Art Paws" or more during the month of October, and received a special art project as a reward. To recognize Native American Heritage Month, these classes created paintings of a famous Ojibwe tradition: the Dreamcatcher. Students learned about dreamcatchers and created their own painted interpretation of one. These classes used permanent markers, watercolor, and metallic paint to create their dreamcatchers.

Thank you so much to all the parents and students who visited the art show this Wednesday! If you did not get to stop by, I have some pictures below of the work that was set out on the tables and in the hallway. Students and parents who did visit were treated to cookies, juice, and some gorgeous work. All visitors were encouraged to vote for their favorite middle school work, although that was very difficult because these projects were of a very high level. Take a look below at the student work.
Next week on report card pickup day, Wednesday, November 9th, there will be an art contest outside of the art studio! Parents and students who visit the art room will be welcome to vote for their favorite "Protest Portrait". One winner will be selected from each middle school grade. Read about the project and look at the pictures below for a sneak peak!
5th, 6th, 7th & 8th grade students have been exploring art's role in the history of protest. For this project, students were required to pick an issue important to them, and write a poem that expressed their views. Students used the words from these poems to create "protest portraits", mixing their face with their ideas. Students wrote about and explored various protests in both their ELA and Social Studies classes to prepare for this project. |
