It's time to update our hallways! Our old legacy trees from our North stairwell are barely hanging on... and it's time to let them retire. This spring grades 3rd-8th are constructing new trees to take their place. Right now we are in the process of decorating the new branches, but soon they will find their way to a hallway near you!

When Covid closed CPS schools in the spring of 2020, many of our art projects had to be abandoned. My middle school students at the time were building hybrid animal sculptures, and the art room was left with boxes of unfinished paper mache sculptures. I HATE to throw art away. This year, rather than toss out my former students' hard work, classes were given the chance to redesign the old sculptures into something new. They could make whatever they wanted as long as they incorporated an old sculpture into their process. With a bit of imagination and a lot of pompoms, the new sculptures are turning out awesome! The last step in our process is to find an unexpected location in the school to create an installation. Keep your eyes peeled - it's going to be the coolest!
Wishing all of our beautiful Bright Families a wonderful Mother's Day this weekend. Our students are excited to bring you some May flowers!
Second grade is learning about contrast with warm and cool colors. Take a peak at their warm/cool tree paintings!
Kindergarten is continuing to practice their scissor and tracing skills with our letter project of the week: G is for Guitar! Their unique designs really show some personality!
We had so much fun making Alebrijes in 2019 that we just HAD to make them again. Students worked in teams to invent their own Alebrije based off the team's most prominent personality traits. Take a look - Bright Students have personalities that glow up our whole hall!
I am so excited to start our rainbow portraits this year. We spent most of last year creating computer art, and I am absolutely thrilled to get back into some messy projects! This yearly painting really showcases the immense talent we have here at Bright, and I can't wait for students to see how much skill they truely have!
Kindergarteners turned into birds this morning after reading the story "Hey Al!". In this classic book, a bored janitor accepts an invitation to a mysterious bird island, where he begins to transform into a bird himself!
Kindergarteners have been practicing safety in the art room, and for this project we focused on scissor and glue safety. Everyone was careful and thoughtful as they used art materials. Keep it up class of 2030! As we complete our projects through google classroom this year, please don't forget that we have a plethora of awesome digital tools at our fingertips. Be sure to try out as many apps as you can from my Bitmoji Classroom!
Each object and picture will lead you to a different app! I recommend you start out with my favorite: Kleki. You can find Kleki by pressing the green paint can. Click here to enter my Bitmoji Classroom! Before school closed, 8th grade took time to propose designs for their graduation shirt. After much deliberation, a "FRIENDS" theme was chosen, and everyone in the class submitted a doodle for their class picture on the shirt. Well, allow me to present to you their final design, coming soon!
