When Covid closed CPS schools in the spring of 2020, many of our art projects had to be abandoned. My middle school students at the time were building hybrid animal sculptures, and the art room was left with boxes of unfinished paper mache sculptures. I HATE to throw art away. This year, rather than toss out my former students' hard work, classes were given the chance to redesign the old sculptures into something new. They could make whatever they wanted as long as they incorporated an old sculpture into their process. With a bit of imagination and a lot of pompoms, the new sculptures are turning out awesome! The last step in our process is to find an unexpected location in the school to create an installation. Keep your eyes peeled - it's going to be the coolest!
